Chilly’s Chance

They always play with Frosty, Chilly thought with a frown.

He couldn’t watch the kids ignore him anymore. He was the snowman nobody wanted to play with. And he was done. Sullen, Chilly dragged himself toward the Peterson’s bonfire. They’d long since gone inside but the embers still burned. It would have to do.

“You’ll melt,” Timmy, the Peterson’s ten year old son said.

“No one wants to play with me.”

“Me neither,” Timmy frowned. Then looked up. “I have chess.”

“I like chess,” Chilly said. And smiled.
