A Favor for Fred

The two flies circled overhead.

“I’m going to do it.”

“Don’t!”

“I’ve never tasted apple pie and I’m a fly, which means I’m going to die sometime this week. It’s now or never.”

“She’ll swat you before you can get to it.”

“Not if you distract her.”

“Me?”

Please. Just once past her face. That’s all I’m asking.”

“But…”

“Do it for me. You’re a pal!” Fred dove and landed on the plate. A hand started to swat him but got distracted by something at her nose. Fred took a bite of the soft crust.

He had a great friend.
