IWSG – Who’s a quitter?

I missed last month which makes me lame.

I know.

I almost missed this month if not for the fear of being kicked out of the group, which I super rarely participate in, but still like being a part of. I never join things. Never liked it. I’m more of a social loner who prefers to be by myself, except when I don’t. Like when the trials of being a writer (or any artist) gets too much, it’s good to have a group of people who get it. People who know what you mean because it’s their struggle too.

With all that said—HA! Can’t kick me out now 😉 I’m here. I have my “Hello my name is” sticker and I’m ready to go. Point me toward the refreshment table and let’s do this.

Did you ever say “I quit?” If so, what happened to make you come back to writing?

No. I’ve never decided to quit.

I’ve teased myself with the idea before, but never fully committed. I don’t think I can. Without sounding too cheese or corny—and maybe some of you can relate—if I go too long without writing, I lose something. Some part of myself that makes me feel like me, a part that makes everything… okayish. I think if I did quit writing, I’d be this totally other person, someone I wouldn’t like, someone who, besides being incredibly attractive, wouldn’t have that spark. That excitement. The thing that makes peoples’ eyes light up.

I’m sure I’ll teeter on the idea of quitting again, at some point when something’s not going the way I planned. I may even decide to take a week off. But then the need to scratch the never-ending itch returns and the sun comes back out again.

Insecure Writer’s Support Group (IWSG) is a monthly blog hop for writers at all levels to share their fears and insecurities in a safe and encouraging place. Please drop by and say hi to Alex Cavanaugh who started this nifty concept in bringing us all together.

P.S. I’m watching 13 Reasons Why. Anyone else? Thoughts?

    Welcome back!

I don’t think any of us can really quit writing. Can you stop being creative? Stop thinking a certain way? It’s really hard to shake off. Like herpes.

Meh, 13 Reasons Why is too depressing for me. I’m in the middle of binging Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

I needed a new show and EVERYBODY was talking about 13RW. It is depressing, but I’m enjoying it.

Yeah, it’s hard to shake off creativity and herpes. That shit will stick with ya.

I’m a longer too, it’s the introvert in me. Maybe we should create a loner group but would that just defeats the purpose of being a loner? Anyways, welcome back. I think we all teeter back on forth to write or quit but that initial desire to write something that touches us and others, doesn’t ever really go away. So though the idea to quit will pop up, regardless if even we do quit, we’ll always find our way back to it.
Haven’t watched 13 Reasons Why but I’m currently on a Netflix binge on Charmed, Arrow and The Fawlty Towers.

Woot woot for a strong return! Nobody’s gonna kick you out now. 😉

I am currently watching the Murdoch Mysteries. I think I’d be in the same boat as C.D. I can’t do heavy shows, especially not the ones with a lot of drama. I’m a Who-Done-It girl, or something absolutely ridiculous like Galavant.

Woop! Still in the club! 🙂

I like everything except horror. And like, gross stuff. I haven’t watched Galavant but I’ve heard good things. Are you enjoying it?

I hear you about being a different person if we stopped writing, about needing the writing so we can be okay.

I started watching 13 Reasons Why but stopped – it felt too long and draggy to me. It’s a shame because the book was excellent.

I have to admit that I did not read the book. I know. I broke the cardinal rule. 😦

That’s the thing I like about this group. We all understand one another so much. I just love knowing that there are other people who get it.

Funny, I might not writing anything all month long but I’ll be sure to write the first Wednesday just so I don’t get kicked out of a group of people I’ve never even met!

I watched 13 Reasons Why. It was good and it led to some good discussions with my kids who had watched it. Right now I’m waiting for Orange Is The New Black to return this weekend!

I tend to be a little leery of writing groups, but I’ve had both good and bad experiences, so it’s hard for me to say either way. But it’s always good to see people sticking with IWSG, because if nothing else… we know what it’s like. We know. O_o

And this year has probably been the closest I’ve ever come to quitting, but I’ve always known that I couldn’t actually do it. Like I’ve always said, I’d be back in a month or less, feeling like a twit and babbling about whatever I was working on next. Eh heh heh.

I think real writers don’t ever quit. Even if they stop pursing publishing (which I DON’T think you should do) they still write for themselves.

As for other writing groups, this is the first I’ve joined and am really happy I did 🙂

I did. i quit for a few years.. I don’t remember exactly when, but maybe 2002 to 2005? Then I joined a Harry Potter chat group and the “cool kids” started a Role Play thread, so I started writing because I wanted to hang out with them in their cool kid thread. At first they kind of ignored me, but eventually they started incorporating me into stuff. Eventually we got a whole story going and broke off from that group to make our own RP group, and things just snowballed from there. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking vacations from one pursuit to embrace another one – but that’s the secret is you need something else to go to. I learned graphic art (aka using computer art programs) during that time, so I was still creating things, just in a different way.

13 reasons is on my someday list. Sadly I almost never watch TV…

      You quit?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Well, I’m glad to know that didn’t last long. And thank God for that HP fan fiction. Magical even in life 🙂

P.S. How were you already not the cool kid in the thread?

I’m the same way with IWSG and blogging in general, and when it comes to my writing. I didn’t answer the question this month because all I could think is – quit? Thanks for joining us this month. 🙂
